So, Sunday is kind of Monday in Israel. It is the first day of the week, and it is a work day. Between the travel, my head playing with time change and this sabbath dislocation, it can be confusing. Or maybe it is the heat. High 20's, and a fair bit of heat haze all day... certainly no risk of frost here for awhile!
We started the day travelling to Caesarea, the port city that Herod the Great constructed complete with a theatre, a hippodrome (to race horses - not hippos) a palace on the sea and the port. Later a centre for the knights of the crusades. Pretty impressive, except that things kind of started to run down after Herod died... a useful reminder of where we put our "stores".
Then on to Mt Carmel where we visited a Carmelite church, located on the mountain to remind us of Elijah and his opportunity to "one-up" the priests of Baal. It did end badly for the other priests... part of that not-so-peaceful aspect of the the Old Testament (400 were killed).
And finally to Megiddo - some 20+ cities layered on top of each other, including a Canaanite city and one from the time of the kings of Israel. You will see our travellers heading down the 183 steps to the spring. Oh, and it is also the site (according to Revelations) of the final battle - Armageddon... looked pretty quite today.
